Woodfuel means sustainable heating for leisure centre

The principle objectives of the installation were to provide base load biomass heating to the leisure centre and to demonstrate a working ESCo supply agreement.

Technical specification

Two KWB Powerfire boilers with a total capacity of 300kW provide baseload heating, in conjunction with a 5000 litre buffer tank. Pellet fuel is delivered by blower truck into a discreet fuel store within the building. The system is fully automatic thereafter, with features such as webcam monitoring of the fuel store and remote access to the boiler controls.

Conclusions

The estimated annual usage for the biomass system is 750MWhrs. By using pellet woodfuel produced in Wales, this offsets over 140 tonnes of CO2 each year. Dulas are responsible for the reliable operation of the biomass heating system, and manage all planned or reactive maintenance and fuel supply logistics. Pembrokeshire County Council are billed for the heat used.

In summary

Woodfuel has a major role to play in replacing polluting fossil fuels to heat and power our homes, businesses, industries and institutions. Dulas biomass specialises in system installation and supply of biomass heat for a wide range of applications.

Specialist services include contract energy services, boiler sales and fuel handling, woodfuel combined heat and power systems, fuel supply logistics and project management services.

We have found that using Dulas Ltd as an ESCo to bill us for heat and to supply, fit, commission, maintain and fuel the new biomass pellet boilers has made the whole process of biomass heating a far simpler ‘one-stop-shop’. The company worked very well as part of the design team, were responsive to our demands and attentive during the design and installation process. To date, the heating installation is running very well and the billing process is simple, being based on quarterly heat meter readings from the onsite plant room.
