Heathrow Airport

Client - Heathrow Airport Terminal 2

Project Overview

Heathrow Airport has energy efficiency and renewable energy targets like most large organisations. The airport aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the redeveloped Terminal 2 building by over 40% and to reduce operating costs. Along with solar PV the renewable energy for the building will come from a combined heat and power plant.

Implementation

Dulas was asked to project manage the solar PV installation by Scheuten Glas Nederland B.V. This included the supply and installation of DC cabling and inverters, making final connections and commissioning. The roof of Terminal 2 now has 124 integrated optisol solar panels installed, tailor-made for the project by Scheuten. Not only were the panels large but they had to suit the building aesthetically and have the potential to deliver a total output of 71kWp. The installation team had to meet the strict airport security protocols. This is one of the largest Optisol solar panel installations in Europe.

Dulas was proud to be part of the project and enjoyed the challenges of working in this environment. The installation was completed on schedule.
